Micropropagation – Part I Drosera or the Sundew plant
Posted by admin
Tissue culturing the Drosera.
My experience getting started with Micropropagation or plant tissue culture. Tips and advice on how to get started.
The molecular weight of Kinetin is 215.2 Moles.
1uM or 1 micro mole of Kinetin = .0002152 grams or .2152mg
A quick and dirty way to figure out how many miligrams there are in any plant growth regulator that is measured in micro moles is to put a period in front of the molecular weight number. e.g 215.2 = .2152mg
There are .2152mg of Kinetin per 1uM of Kinetin. Simple and easy.
Kinetin produces a strong responce with Drosera.
See the results with Kinetin.

Nice picture.
I saw some Vfts TC where a person got atleast a hundured Vfts from a single leaf in about 6 months.
LOL, sorry. It’s …
LOL, sorry. It’s much easier to get everything pre-mixed. You don’t have to do all of the mixing as you do when you get plant growth regulators in powder form. Just add 0.5ml of Kinetin premixed solution to 1 liter of water. Much less fuss.
I posted an image of the Drosera under the more info section to the left of the webpage to show what Kinetin will do.

Great vid though really informitive. I think I will just propagate my sundews with out tissue culture. It is still beyond me.

Be sure to check out the videos by gardenspout. You may want to change the disinfecting procedures a little. Seems kinda harsh to me but otherwise good videos.
Check out the vids by beak02 too if you are into orchids or using other very tiny seeds for plant tissue culture.
Take care

I suppose if I was watching this for the first time I’d be lost to:-) It’s not too hard. If you want to start doing tissue culture start out with premixed stuff. It’s a lot easier that way. If you have any questions just shoot me a message.
Take care
